Hello all!

Performances have seen a rise of visual dramaturgy in the past 30 years which “ does not mean an exclusively visually organized dramaturgy but rather one that is not subordinated to the text and therefore freely develops it’s own logic” (Lehmann 2006, p.93). I am researching this area through the creation of a piece of visual theatre that is supported, challenged, shaped and questioned against related theory. In order to support this inquiry and investigation I would benefit from people’s understanding of this field. I aim to use your responses to analyse and criticize my own methods of practice and essentially attempt to come to a deeper understanding of this practice within a contemporary and post modern framework.

How would you define the term ‘Visual Dramaturgy’?

What are the key skills needed in this field?

What are the key performance tools a Visual Dramaturg should consider?

How does a Visual Dramaturg approach the creative process?

What areas of theoretical understanding should underpin this type of work?

Any other comments?

Thank you for your time, help and brains!

Hi,

I’m also interested in a related field, especially in attempting to define postdramatic dramaturgy, which forms part of my M.Phil thesis. Feel free to email me at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) if you’d like to discuss this in more detail.
